The ACL Mariners continued their strong stretch of play Tuesday afternoon, scoring 11 runs over the first three innings and powering their way to a 13-6 victory over the ACL Rockies at the Peoria Sports Complex.

Facing the Arizona Complex League’s top offensive club, the Mariners wasted little time taking control.

Diego Contreras opened the bottom of the first inning with a walk before a catcher’s interference call put Nick Becker aboard. Two batters later, Sebastian De Andrade delivered the game’s first big swing. The catcher launched a three-run home run on a 3-1 pitch, his second homer of the season, giving Seattle an early 3-0 advantage.

The Mariners added to their lead in the second inning. RBI singles from Becker and Yonger Bautista plated two more runs and stretched the margin to 5-0.

The Rockies finally broke through in the third. Dariel Garcia led off the inning with a double, and Cristian Arguelles later drove him home with a two-out single. A hit batter and two walks issued by Mariners starter Kendal Mesa helped Colorado trim the deficit to 5-2.

Any momentum the Rockies gained was short-lived.

Seattle responded with its biggest offensive inning of the afternoon in the bottom half of the third. After Martin Gonzalez drew a leadoff walk and Joshua Francis was retired on a flyout, the Mariners rattled off seven consecutive hits. RBI knocks from Contreras, Becker, Kelvin Alcantara, Konni Durschlag and Bryant Mendez highlighted a six-run frame that pushed the lead to 11-2 and put the game firmly in Seattle’s control.

Colorado chipped away with two runs in the fourth and another in the seventh, but the Mariners continued to answer. Bautista connected for a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh, his third homer in the last four games, restoring a comfortable cushion.

Gonzalez capped the scoring in the eighth inning with an RBI hit as Seattle closed out the 13-6 victory.

The performance was particularly impressive against a Rockies club that entered the game leading the Arizona Complex League in batting average and standing as the league’s only team hitting above .300. Mariners pitchers limited Colorado to eight hits while recording 14 strikeouts. Six of those strikeouts came over the final three innings as Seattle’s bullpen slammed the door.

Every Mariners starter reached base safely and eight different players crossed the plate in the balanced offensive effort.

With the win, the Mariners proved they can compete with any club in the Arizona Complex League while extending their winning streak to two games.

Seattle will have an off day before traveling to Surprise for a matchup with the ACL Rangers on Thursday. The Mariners defeated the Rangers 3-0 last week, allowing just two hits in the shutout victory.
