The ACL Mariners continued their impressive run of form Tuesday night, shutting out the ACL Rangers 3-0 at the Surprise Stadium Complex. Behind another stellar pitching performance and timely offense, Seattle extended its winning streak to three games while recording its second consecutive shutout.

The Mariners’ pitching staff once again led the way, limiting the Rangers to just two hits while striking out 10 batters.

After opener Karoly struck out two in a scoreless first inning, Kendal Meza delivered his strongest outing of the season. The right-hander tossed three scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out four to earn his first victory of the year.

Wuilliams Rodriguez took over in the fifth and continued the dominant effort, working four scoreless innings while surrendering just one hit and striking out two. Cristian Guevara closed out the victory with a perfect ninth inning, striking out two to collect his fifth save of the season.

Seattle broke through in the third inning. Diego Contreras singled with one out and later came around to score on Martin Gonzalez’s sacrifice fly, giving the Mariners a 1-0 lead.

The Mariners doubled their advantage in the fifth when Joshua Francis reached base and eventually scored on Gonzalez’s second RBI of the night.

Gonzalez added an insurance run in the eighth, launching a solo home run to right field for his second homer of the season and a 3-0 Seattle lead.

Although the Mariners were held to just three hits, they made each one count. Gonzalez finished 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs, while Contreras and Brayden Corn collected Seattle’s other hits. Francis scored the club’s second run after reaching base in the fifth.

Texas starter Eduardo Lopez kept the Rangers in the game with eight strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings, but Seattle capitalized on its scoring opportunities while its pitchers never allowed the Rangers to generate sustained offense.

The Mariners’ staff has now thrown 16 consecutive scoreless innings over its last two games, allowing just four hits while striking out 19 batters during that stretch.

Seattle will look to keep its winning streak alive on Wednesday when it travels to Tempe Diablo Stadium to take on the ACL Angels. The Mariners will be seeking their fourth consecutive victory against one of the Arizona Complex League’s top clubs.
