The ACL Mariners had their three-game winning streak come to an end Wednesday afternoon, falling 13-1 to the ACL Angels at Tempe Diablo Stadium.

The Angels seized control in the opening inning, sending 11 batters to the plate and scoring six runs. Third baseman Lugo delivered the biggest blow of the frame with a three-run home run as Los Angeles jumped out to an early 6-0 lead.

Seattle got on the board in the second inning when Austin Davis ripped a leadoff double and eventually came around to score on an Angels throwing error, cutting the deficit to 6-1.

The Mariners threatened throughout the afternoon but struggled to cash in on scoring opportunities. Seattle finished with five hits but went just 1-for-16 with runners in scoring position, leaving eight runners on base.

Davis led the offense with a 2-for-3 performance, including a double and the Mariners’ lone run scored. Shota Oyama also collected two hits, while Manuel Almeida added a single.

The Angels broke the game open in the fifth inning, erupting for seven runs. Catcher Rivero capped the outburst with a grand slam, extending Los Angeles’ lead to 13-1.

Luis Cazarez was charged with the loss after allowing eight runs, five earned, over 3 1/3 innings. Despite the final score, the Mariners’ pitching staff struck out eight batters, while Martin Gonzalez provided a bright spot by tossing a scoreless sixth inning in relief.

The loss dropped Seattle to 16-13 on the season and snapped a three-game winning streak.

The Mariners will look to bounce back Thursday when they return to the Peoria Sports Complex to open a new series against the ACL Brewers.
