The ACL Mariners were unable to hold an early lead Thursday night, falling 5-2 to the ACL Brewers at the Peoria Sports Complex.

Seattle struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Nick Becker led off the game with a solo home run, his second of the season, giving the Mariners an early 1-0 advantage.

Milwaukee answered in the second on an RBI single by Anthony Frias to even the score, but the Mariners reclaimed the lead in the fourth. Luis Romero connected on a solo home run to left field, his third homer of the season, putting Seattle back in front, 2-1.

Starter Tyler Wilson delivered one of his strongest outings of the year for Seattle. The right-hander allowed just one run on one hit over 4 1/3 innings while striking out a season-high 10 batters. Wilson retired 13 of the 16 batters he faced before exiting with the Mariners still in front.

The Brewers turned the game in the sixth inning. After loading the bases, Milwaukee broke through with a two-run single from Liao before adding another run later in the frame to take a 5-2 lead.

Seattle couldn’t answer over the final three innings as Brewers relievers held the Mariners scoreless the rest of the way. Milwaukee’s pitching staff combined to strike out eight while limiting Seattle to five hits.

Becker and Romero each supplied a solo home run to account for the Mariners’ offense. Martin Gonzalez doubled, while Kelvin Alcantara and Joshua Francis each added a hit.

The loss dropped the Mariners to 16-14 on the season.

Seattle will look to bounce back Friday when it travels to the Surprise Stadium Complex to face the ACL Royals.
