An early two-run first inning proved too much to overcome as the ACL Mariners fell 7-3, evening the season series at two games apiece.

Nick McLain sparked the White Sox offense with a leadoff double, followed by a single by left fielder Alan Escobar to drive in the first run of the game. Escobar later stole second and advanced on a fielder’s choice before a catcher’s interference call on Carlos Gonzalez brought home the White Sox’s second run of the inning.

The White Sox extended their lead to 3-0 on a Gonzalez throwing error in the second, but the Mariners answered in the bottom half of the inning. Kelvin Alcantara and Diego Contreas drew walks before Joshua Francis laid down a sacrifice bunt to move both runners into scoring position. White Sox pitcher Christian Oppor then walked two more batters, including a bases-loaded walk to first baseman Martin Gonzalez that cut the deficit to 3-1.

Following a scoreless third inning, the White Sox added another run in the fourth with back-to-back singles by Jurdirck Profar and Eduardo Herrera, followed by an RBI double by Nick McLain, pushing the Sox ahead 4-1.

Dylan Wilson exited after four innings. Relief pitcher Dominic Castellano struck out DH Landing Hodge to begin the inning. Still, a walk to Marcelo Alcala was followed by an RBI single from shortstop Yordani Soto that extended the lead to 5-1.

The sixth inning began with a walk to Profar. After a Castellano balk and wild pitch, Profar moved to 3rd. On a 2-2 count, Herrera lined a single to left field, bringing in Profar to increase the lead 6-1.

The Mariners showed signs of life in the bottom of the 6th. Singles by Carlos Gonzalez and 2nd baseman Jo Oyama led to a 2-RBI triple by the 2025 second-round pick shortstop Nick Becker in the left-center field gap to cut the White Sox’s lead to 6-3.

A no-outs double in the top of the 7th by Yordani Soto led to an RBI single by 2nd baseman Alejandro Cruz to give the White Sox a four-run lead. A two-out double by Mariners DH Al Contreras in the bottom of the 7th was not enough to start a late-game rally.

Four White Sox recorded a multi-hit game, led by Nick McLain, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI. Fidel Monteros earned his first win of the season, pitching 3 2/3 innings, allowing two runs and six strikeouts.

Dylan Wilson, who is now 1-1 on the season, threw four innings and allowed two runs, one walk, and struck out six. Mariners’ right fielder Kelvin Alcantara went 1-2 with 2 walks and a run scored, while Nick Becker went 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs.
