Mariners Blank Giants 6-0 for Second Straight Victory

Mariners Blank Giants for Second Straight Win

The ACL Mariners continued their strong stretch of play Monday night, using dominant pitching and a balanced offensive attack to defeat the ACL Giants, 6-0, at the Peoria Sports Complex.

Seattle’s pitching staff was in command from the first pitch, combining on a two-hit shutout while striking out nine Giants hitters. Starter Po-Chun Lin set the tone with 3 2/3 hitless innings, allowing two walks and striking out five. Cristian Aray took over in relief and tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings, giving up just two hits while striking out three to improve to 4-0 on the season. Carpinteiro worked a scoreless seventh inning, striking out one to complete the shutout.

The Mariners wasted little time providing run support.

Nick Becker reached safely to begin the bottom of the first and later scored on an RBI single by Kelvin Alcantara. Yonger Bautista followed later in the inning with an RBI single of his own, giving Seattle an early 2-0 lead.

Seattle doubled its advantage in the second inning. Becker reached base for the second time before Luis Romero ripped an RBI triple into the gap. Austin Davis followed with an RBI double, extending the Mariners’ lead to 4-0.

The Mariners added the final two runs in the fourth. Davis stayed hot at the plate with his third hit of the evening, another RBI double, before Alcantara delivered a two-out RBI single to cap the scoring at 6-0.

Davis paced the Mariners’ offense, finishing 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs. Becker reached base four times, going 2-for-2 with two walks while scoring twice. Bautista drove in two runs, and Alcantara and Romero each contributed an RBI as Seattle totaled 10 hits.

The Giants were unable to generate any offense against Seattle’s pitching, managing just two hits and going 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position.

The victory improved the Mariners to 15-12 on the season and marked their second consecutive win. Seattle will look to carry that momentum into Tuesday’s road matchup against the ACL Rangers at the Surprise Stadium Complex.
