The ACL Mariners closed out their six-game homestand with a gritty 2-1 win over the ACL Dodgers on Saturday afternoon at the Peoria Sports Complex. Behind another outstanding pitching performance and timely offense, Seattle secured its fourth victory in the last six games and improved to 14-12 on the season.

In a game where offense was at a premium, Mariners starter Ricardo Perez kept the Dodgers off balance from the outset. The right-hander scattered three hits and allowed just one run over five innings while striking out six without issuing a walk.

The Dodgers’ lone run came in the third inning when designated hitter Gorski delivered a two-out RBI double to score Jose Rosa for a 1-0 lead.

Seattle broke through in the bottom of the fifth. Brayden Corn recorded the Mariners’ first hit of the game with a one-out single before advancing to third. Center fielder Yonger Bautista lifted a sacrifice fly to center, bringing Corn home to even the score at 1-1.

The Mariners manufactured the winning run an inning later. Kelvin Alcantara and Diego Contreras drew back-to-back walks to start the sixth before Seattle’s patient approach at the plate continued. Consecutive free passes eventually forced Corn home with the go-ahead run, giving the Mariners their first lead of the afternoon.

The bullpen made the slim lead stand.

Max Rodriguez worked a perfect sixth inning, striking out two to earn his second win of the season. Cristian Guevara followed with a scoreless seventh, allowing one walk while striking out one to collect his fourth save.

Although Seattle finished with just two hits, the Mariners consistently pressured Dodgers pitching by drawing nine walks. Corn reached base twice, scored both runs, and collected the Mariners’ first hit of the afternoon. Martin Gonzalez added the club’s other hit, while Bautista drove in the tying run with his sacrifice fly.

Seattle’s pitching staff continued its recent stretch of dominance, holding the Dodgers to just three hits while combining for nine strikeouts in the seven-inning contest.

The Mariners will look to keep their momentum rolling on Monday when they host the ACL Giants at the Peoria Sports Complex after finishing the week with four wins in six games.
