PEORIA, Ariz. — The ACL Mariners continued their stellar play Saturday afternoon, overcoming a late three-run deficit to defeat the ACL Dodgers 10-9 and move into sole possession of the final Arizona Complex League playoff spot.

The Dodgers jumped out to an early lead, scoring twice in the top of the first inning. First baseman Matt Gorski opened the scoring with an RBI single before Moises Bolivar added a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.

The Mariners threatened in the third inning when Diego Contreras was hit by a pitch and consecutive walks to Nick Becker and Yorger Bautista loaded the bases with nobody out. However, two strikeouts and a popup stranded all three runners and kept Seattle off the scoreboard.

Los Angeles added to its lead in the fourth. After a two-out walk to Dainel Mielcarek, Eduardo Rojas lined a triple into the gap to score Mielcarek and extend the Dodgers’ advantage to 3-0.

The Mariners finally broke through in the fifth inning. Becker singled and stole second before Bautista delivered an RBI single to cut the deficit to 3-1.

The Dodgers responded immediately in the sixth. A leadoff walk to Gorski and a single by Bolivar put runners on the corners with nobody out. Gorski scored on a wild pitch before Mielcarek doubled to put two runners in scoring position. Following a walk to Rojas, Abel Lorenzo drove in another run on a fielder’s choice to push the Dodgers’ lead to 5-1.

Trailing by four runs, the Mariners began their comeback in the bottom of the sixth. Consecutive walks to Deuri Castillo and Konni Durschlag, followed by a walk to Martin Gonzalez and a wild pitch, brought home Seattle’s second run of the game. Contreras later lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, trimming the deficit to 5-3.

The Mariners seized control in the seventh inning. Bautista opened the frame with a double, and Seattle patiently worked three bases-loaded walks by Castillo, Durschlag, and Gonzalez to take its first lead of the afternoon at 6-5.

The lead was short-lived.

The Dodgers answered with a four-run eighth inning. Rojas doubled and Yojackson Laya followed with a two-run single to put Los Angeles back in front. The Dodgers added two more runs in the frame to build what appeared to be a comfortable 9-6 advantage heading into the bottom of the ninth.

But the Mariners had one more rally left.

After reliever Alen Carpinteiro delivered a scoreless top of the ninth, Seattle entered its final at-bat needing three runs to extend the game.

Brayden Corn reached on a hit-by-pitch and Gonzalez followed with a single. Bryant Mendez then reached on a fielder’s choice, moving Corn to third and bringing the tying run to the plate. Contreras delivered an RBI hit to make it 9-7 before Becker drew a walk to load the bases.

With the game hanging in the balance, Bautista lined a two-run single to center field, tying the score at 9-9 and recording his third RBI of the afternoon. A wild pitch moved the winning run into scoring position, setting the stage for Dalton Davis, who delivered a walk-off RBI single to complete the stunning comeback and secure a 10-9 Mariners victory.

Carpinteiro earned his second win of the season after tossing a scoreless ninth inning.

Bautista continued his torrid stretch at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with a double, two walks, three RBIs, and a run scored. He has now recorded at least one RBI in five of his last seven games.

The victory extends the Mariners’ winning streak to five games, matching their longest run of the season.

Seattle will look to keep the momentum rolling on the road when it faces the ACL White Sox on June 21. The two clubs split their previous two meetings, both played in Peoria.
