PEORIA, Ariz. — The ACL Mariners received a dominant performance from their pitching staff and timely production from the top of the lineup Saturday afternoon, shutting out the ACL Guardians 5-0 at Peoria Stadium Complex.

Seattle’s pitchers combined to allow just one hit while striking out seven as the Mariners extended their winning streak to three games.

After stranding Yorger Bautista at second in the opening inning, the Mariners broke through in the third. Martin Gonzalez singled before Bryant Mendez worked a walk. Following Martin Gonzalez being thrown out attempting to steal third, Nick Becker lined an RBI single to right to score Mendez. Becker advanced to third on a wild pitch, and Bautista followed with an RBI single to left to double the lead.

The Mariners’ pitching staff continued to keep the Guardians off balance throughout the afternoon. Starter Roberto Perez tossed four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out five. Michael Hobbs (1-0) followed with a scoreless fifth before Cristian Aray retired all six batters he faced over the final two innings to secure his third save of the season.

Seattle added insurance in the sixth inning. Manuel Almeida drew a leadoff walk before Martin Gonzalez reached on a fielder’s choice and advanced when a throwing error by third baseman Carlos Garces allowed Almeida to move to third. Bryant Mendez brought Almeida home with a groundout before Becker crushed a two-run home run to left field, his fourth of the season, stretching the Mariners’ advantage to 5-0.

Becker finished 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs, two runs scored, and a walk. Bautista collected three of Seattle’s six hits, finishing 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and two stolen bases. Martin Gonzalez added a hit and scored once, while Mendez scored a run and drove in another.

Perez, Hobbs, and Aray combined to hold the Guardians to just one hit while limiting them to 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position. The trio also struck out seven and allowed only three walks in the club’s second shutout victory of the season.

With the win, the Mariners improved to 27-16, extending their winning streak to three games while posting the ACL’s best record over the last 10 games at 9-1. Seattle maintained its half-game lead over the ACL Royals atop the ACL West and will host Kansas City on Tuesday in Peoria in a matchup featuring the top two teams in the division.
